How do you apply for a new job? 9 important questions and tips

  1. Start by thinking about what you enjoy in your current job and what you miss. Are the tasks you want to do? Do you enjoy your company?
  2. If you enjoy the company and colleagues, what the company stands for and its future, maybe you should have a discussion with your manager about the possibilities of changing your work content? What new areas is the company going into? Will someone quit the company who has a position that you want?
  3. If you want a more stimulating workplace with new challenges, the choice is easy, you have to look at other companies for your new job. Where can I find my new job? Quite a few jobs are advertised in the paper newspaper. And on the web, there are over 70 different websites with job ads to look at. So what should you do?
  4. While there are a plethora of sites with job openings, you don’t have to look at all of them. Pick out some of the larger and more well-known sites and regularly look for your dream job there. Here you should also include some well-known staffing companies. They provide more and more jobs and have a large number of services in circulation.
  5. Register. Post your details on a few websites with information about what jobs you are looking for and also attach a cover letter and your CV. (You can read about how to put together your cover letter and CV here).
  6. How do you apply for the job? Formulate a cover letter for the position you are applying for and tell them why you want the job and what you can bring to the company when they hire you. Attach your CV, which should be one or a maximum of two A4 pages.
  7. Can you contact companies directly? Absolute! Contact the companies that you think have or will have vacancies with the focus you want. Sometimes you can get lucky and hit the right spot.
  8. Other paths to your new job? Friends and former colleagues can often be a good source for you to get information about new jobs and changes in other workplaces.
  9. Before you decide to start your new job, think about whether the tasks suit and stimulate you? What values does the employer stand for? How do you think the company will develop in the next few years? Are the colleagues suitable for the new workplace and the social environment? Will you enjoy it there?
